Civil Justice Scholarship Award Pound Civil Justice Institute

Nominated scholars must be full-time law professors at ABA-accredited law schools. If a written work has multiple authors, at least one of the authors must be a full-time professor as stipulated above. 2. A written work nominated for the award must be a single substantial book published by a university or legal press, or a single substantial published article in the law review of an ABA-accredited law school. Smith-Doheny Legal Ethics Award Notre Dame Law School

The Program on Ethics, Compliance, &amp;amp;amp;amp; Inclusion oversees the Smith-Doheny Legal Ethics writing competition sponsored by Notre Dame Law School. Any current student at an American or Canadian law school may submit an essay (a minimum of 5,000 words and a maximum of 15,000 words, inclusive of footnotes) on any legal ethics topic. Lazzari Memorial Prize Student Writing Competition State Bar of Texas ENRLS

The Lazzari Memorial Prize is a $1,000 cash prize paid to the author and publication of the winning paper in the Texas Entertainment and Sports Law Journal. The winning author also receives their membership facilitated into the Section, a complimentary registration for the 2022 Entertainment Law Institute and Bootcamp in Austin, recognition at the Institute, and an invitation to the Institute’s private speakers dinner in Austin. Lolly Gasaway Faculty-Student Writing Award Order of Coif

Established in January 2022 to honor Lolly Gasaway for her many years of exceptional service to Order of the Coif, this annual
award recognizes outstanding scholarship authored collaboratively by a student and a faculty member. This award celebrates the high level of intellectual achievement at member schools by recognizing the published work of students and faculty members in legal scholarship.

The criteria for this award are:
• Submissions must be journal articles authored by at least one student and one faculty member
of a member school.
• Students must be in good standing at the time of publication as defined by the chapter.
• Nominations for the 2023 award must be works published in 2022.
• Works will be evaluated for scholarship of the highest quality including originality of research,
depth of thought and analysis, professional writing, and substantial contribution to legal thought.

2022 WRITING COMPETITION RULES

1. Eligibility/Topics

Papers must be written by full or part-time students pursuing a degree at the graduate level (J.D., L.L.M., S.J.D, M.S.T., MTA, Masters of Taxation, or similar program), on a topic involving the application of United States tax rules to international activities.

  1. Papers must be no more than 40 typewritten pages in length (double-spaced in 12 pt. font), including footnotes and appendices (both of which may be single-spaced), and in proper citation form.
  2. Papers written in connection with a school course or seminar offered during the 2021-22 academic year (including independent study and 2022 summer school courses) are eligible for the IFA Competition.
  3. Papers based on research or other work done in connection with law firms or other employment are eligible for the IFA Competition, as are papers evolving from moot court or legal clinic involvement. Any such papers, however, must be in the form of a scholarly article. Client-specific work products (e.g., briefs, legal memoranda, opinion letters, etc.) will not be accepted.
  4. Student papers submitted for publication in law reviews or other legal journals or periodicals are eligible for the IFA Competition, provided that the version submitted shall not reflect any changes made to the paper after submission of the manuscript to any publication.
  5. Student papers submitted to other competitions are eligible for the IFA Competition.

Student Essay Competition The Yale Law Journal

he Journal’s Student Essay Competition challenges the next generation of legal scholars and practitioners to reflect on emerging legal problems. The Competition is open to current law students and recent law-school graduates nationwide. Up to three winners will be awarded a $300 cash prize. Winning submissions will be published in the Yale Law Journal Forum, the Journal’s online component. All Forum Essays are fully searchable and available on LexisNexis, Westlaw, and our website. Last year’s winning Essays can be viewed on our website.

Ms. JD Public Interest Scholarship Ms. JD

The Ms. JD Public Interest Scholarship program provides a stipend to students as they pursue careers in public interest law. Ms. JD is thrilled to continue our support of women pursuing public interest careers and soften the burden faced by those who accept public interest internships, which are often unpaid.

The definition of public interest law is broad and includes both domestic and international work; direct service, impact litigation, and policy work; and government and non-profit work. Former public interest scholarship award recipients have pursued internships in immigration law, women’s rights, public health, public defense, government at all levels, and criminal justice reform.

Eligibility:&nbsp;The Selection Committee will consider publications on inter-State dispute settlement, investor-State dispute settlement, international commercial arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution. Any article, or book chapter from an edited volume, in the English language published during 2021 may be nominated. Sole and jointly authored papers are eligible, and self-nominations are accepted. Membership in the American Society of International Law is not required. Submissions from outside the United States are welcome and encouraged.

Criteria:&nbsp;In assessing submissions, the Selection Committee will take into account factors such as: a) depth of research; b) sophistication of analysis; c) originality; d) quality of writing; and e) potential impact on the field of international dispute resolution.

Frederick E. McKelvey Writing Competition American Association of Patent Judges

The McKelvey Competition is open to any student pursuing study in law, policy, management, or any related field, that impacts technology. In order to be eligible, candidates must be enrolled in a graduate degree program for at least one term during the 2022-23 academic year.

The AAPJ administers this competition in honor of Frederick E. McKelvey, whose five-decade career at the United States Patent and Trademark Office was marked with a dedication to teaching, mentoring, and promoting a sense of collegiality.

Thomas H Wilson Human Rights Essay Contest State Bar of Texas International Law Section

A first-place prize of $1,500 will be awarded for the best entry as judged by representatives from the Section. If sufficient entries are received, second and third place prizes may also be given. The winner(s) will also be publicly recognized at the ILS Annual Institute. Additionally, the winning essay(s) will be published in the Section’s quarterly International Newsletter.

As part of the State Bar of Texas International Law Section’s commitment to providing information and guidance on international human rights issues, the Section sponsors a writing contest that is open to individuals attending law school (including LL.M. programs) within the State of Texas and Texas residents in law school outside of Texas.

GUIDELINES

The essay may address any aspect of international human rights law that the contestant chooses. There are no minimum or maximum word limits, and papers should be double-spaced, with twelve-point font and one-inch margins. Our preference, however, is for papers to be 2500 words or less. We will accept longer documents for consideration, but they will have to be edited for publication. Papers submitted to us can be published elsewhere with attribution to the original publication in the ILS International Newsletter.
