Eligible scholars have a terminal degree received within the past 7 years in humanities, social sciences, or professional field like law. A research proposal (3 pages max), explanation of why the Library of Congress is the appropriate venue, and 3 letters from people recommending the proposal are required.

Fellowships are for periods from four to six months and may be given residence at any time during the 18-month window after the fellowship letter is received.
