The African American Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Texas, through its governing Council, and as part of its Speaking Freely initiative, is initiating its inaugural Student Writing Competition - entitled “Equal Writes” - to be coordinated by its newly-formed Law School Committee.  Equal Writes is open to written Submissions of essays authored by law students in good standing from any of the ten accredited law schools in Texas. The subject of the Submission is determined by the SBOT AALS, and is as follows:

If we cannot challenge racist policies, then racist power’s final solution will be achieved: a world of inequity none of us can see, let alone resist."
