State Bar of Texas Women and the Law Section

Submissions should be 2500 words or less on a topic that identifies and analyzes a legal challenge for women in Texas and/or the U.S. based on recent news report. The essay should be written in the style of an op-ed that would be read by the general public and identify the following three questions: (1) What is the challenge? How are women harmed? (2) What is the relevant law(s)? and (3) How should the challenge be addressed?

Students wishing to be considered for the Award and for Second Place should submit an essay of no more than
2,500 words on the below-referenced topic by no later than February 25, 2022, to Section Chair Leigh Hunt
Goodson via email to office@huntgoodsonlaw.com  with the following subject line: “WAL Student Writing
Competition.”
