Crossref DOI Registration XML Generator

This tool was developed to quickly create valid DOI XML registration files for journals hosted on Bepress Digital Commons.

Requirements

• Bepress Digital Commons journal series with access to generate "Batch Revise" spreadsheets
• Metadata Requirements for Journal Series: You need a DOI metadata field with the non-URL DOI for each article filled in. This tool parses spreadsheets for DOIs and then transforms the spreadsheet cell data into valid XML to register with Crossref.
• You can still use this tool if you have a spreadsheet with compatible metadatafields. Here is a template.
• Crossref membership
• Gather information about the journal: Journal Title, Bluebook Abbreviation, Volume #, Issue #, ISSN

Instructions

1. From Bepress Digital Commons administration panel, go to the journal configuration and click on Manage Submissions and then Batch revise Excel.
2. Click on the Generate button. Wait and then download the Batch Revise spreadsheet by clicking on the link.
3. Open the Batch Revise spreadsheet and Save As a CSV file.
4. Upload the CSV file using the form below.
5. Fill in the required journal information. This tool generates registration XML for one issue within a volume.
6. Click Submit to generate the XML file and receive it as a Downloaded file.
7. Open the file with a browser like Chrome, Firefox, or Safari to view the XML file. You can spot check against the spreadsheet data and verify the transform executed properly.
8. Before uploading to Crossref, you can use Crossref's Metadata Quality Check tool to verify the XML file is valid and contains no critical errors.
9. Upload the XML file to Crossref's DOI Registration Submission tool (requires Crossref membership login details), or send to whoever can register on your behalf.
